  Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa said he is disappointed and embarrassed over the way His Holiness Pope Francis was treated by Prime Minister James Marape over the last three-days during the Papal visit, and the lack of courtesy and respect shown by the Prime Minister. He said the Prime Minister continuously declares PNG as a ‘Christian country’ and prides himself on being a religious individual but he was surprised when the Pope was continuously snubbed by the PM over the weekend since the Pope’s arrival on Friday. “The Pope is the head of the Catholic church, the largest Christian church in the world and he is also a head of state. “PNG not only being a Christian country, but a country that prides itself as a ‘friend to all, enemy to none’, the PM should be according the Pope with the highest level of respect,” Tomuriesa said. NOMINATIONS OPENS AT 8 O'ClOCK THIS MORNING

The nomination for the 2022 National General Election starts this morning at 8'Oclock. Electoral Commissioner, Simon Sinai told NBC News this morning that intending candidates are to start nominating at 8am and not at 4pm as was scheduled initially. He clarified that as soon as writs were issued on Thursday, May 12th, the nomination was open. But says he used his administrative powers to delay the nomination by a week in respect of the death of the late Deputy Prime Minister Sam Basil. Commissioner Sinai has clarified that nomination is continuing and candidates can commence nominating this morning. Meantime, the nomination closes on Thursday, May 26th. NBC News- Esther B. OMBUDSMAN COMMISSION URGES VOTERS TO EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN VOTING

The Ombudsman Commission is calling on all eligible voters to exercise caution when casting their votes in the 2022 National Election. From recorded statistics, the Ombudsman Commission said that good moral ethical standards in leaders are a real problem in the country today, therefore, there's a need to elect good leaders in the upcoming election. According to the Ombudsman Commission statistics, more than 100 leaders from different sectors of government have been investigated and referred to the Public Prosecutor for prosecution since independence. The Ombudsman Commission is concerned that basic services, like proper health care, are not trickling down to rural areas because of the bad decisions of those in influential positions. DRIVER INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT WITH LATE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER TO BE CHARGED

Police Commissioner, David Manning said the driver of the other vehicle involved in the tragic accident that claimed the lives of Deputy Prime Minister Sam Basil and his bodyguard, is expected to be charged soon. In a statement yesterday, Mr. Manning said police investigators are satisfied with the evidence on hand to lay charges on the driver. Police have released the identity of the driver as 37-year old Mathew Barnabas from Ambai village, Simbai, in Madang Province. Police say he is a coffee buyer who is married to a local woman from Mumeng, Bulolo District. Mr. Manning said he is likely to be charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing the deaths of Mr. Basil and First Constable Neil Maino, and dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm to the other two passengers.
