Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa said he is disappointed and embarrassed over the way His Holiness Pope Francis was treated by Prime Minister James Marape over the last three-days during the Papal visit, and the lack of courtesy and respect shown by the Prime Minister. He said the Prime Minister continuously declares PNG as a ‘Christian country’ and prides himself on being a religious individual but he was surprised when the Pope was continuously snubbed by the PM over the weekend since the Pope’s arrival on Friday. “The Pope is the head of the Catholic church, the largest Christian church in the world and he is also a head of state. “PNG not only being a Christian country, but a country that prides itself as a ‘friend to all, enemy to none’, the PM should be according the Pope with the highest level of respect,” Tomuriesa said. Coach Marum hails Segeyaro

COACH Michael Marum says the signing of Kumuls rake James Segeyaro by Manly Sea Eagles feeder side, Blacktown Workers, is a boost for Papua New Guinea ahead of this year’s Rugby League World Cup.
The former North Queensland Cowboy, Penrith Panther, Cronulla Shark, Brisbane Bronco and Leeds Rhino was signed by Blacktown for the upcoming New South Wales Cup season.
With Manase Fainu still not able to play under the National Rugby League’s (NRL) no-fault stand-down rule, Lachlan Croker has done a superb job stepping up into the hooking role for Manly.
But the Des Hasler-coached side are still thin on dummy-half options and Segeyaro can fill the void in the squad, starting with Manly feeder side in the second-tier competition.
Marum told The National yesterday that the Eastern Highlands native was still considered as one of the leaders in the Kumuls and he would be considered for the showpiece event in England at the end of year.
“Full credit to James for having the courage to continue pursuing his dream of returning to NRL after more than two years,” the former SP Hunters coach said.
“I think he is almost there, so congratulations to him.
“It’s a good news for the Kumuls because he is definitely someone we can rely on in the World Cup and other test matches.
“He had captained the side in the 2018 Test match against Fiji.
“He has the respect of most players and the coaching staff.
“So when he returns to the Kumuls, we will be banking on him as one of the leaders in the team.”
Marum said multiple off-field controversies had affected Segeyaro’s career.
However, he said the former Dally M Hooker of the Year still had an opportunity to get his rugby league career back on track due to his skills and experience.
