Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa said he is disappointed and embarrassed over the way His Holiness Pope Francis was treated by Prime Minister James Marape over the last three-days during the Papal visit, and the lack of courtesy and respect shown by the Prime Minister. He said the Prime Minister continuously declares PNG as a ‘Christian country’ and prides himself on being a religious individual but he was surprised when the Pope was continuously snubbed by the PM over the weekend since the Pope’s arrival on Friday. “The Pope is the head of the Catholic church, the largest Christian church in the world and he is also a head of state. “PNG not only being a Christian country, but a country that prides itself as a ‘friend to all, enemy to none’, the PM should be according the Pope with the highest level of respect,” Tomuriesa said. OVER 5 MILLION TO VOTE

Over five million people are expected to cast their votes throughout the country this and next week in the 2022 polls.

The Electoral Commission has reported a generally good turn out of day one of polling today throughout the country.
Simon Sinai told the NBC Government Talkback Show tonight, all provinces with scheduled polling days today started, except for the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
He said "In general, at least there's one or two electorates have started their polling in all the provinces which is a good sign."
Mr. Sinai said the other issues of late start to polls, names missing on the rolls, among others, are common issues in every election.
He was responding to questions about certain provinces whose pollings didn't commence as planned for today.
Mr. Sinai said "Some issues if you like you know its on the roll and people waiting on the line and some they don't find their names on the roll. Those are common issues. Late starts for a first day in any election is always a common thing. There used to be some bigger issues but with the start of polling, everything else is okay."
