Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa said he is disappointed and embarrassed over the way His Holiness Pope Francis was treated by Prime Minister James Marape over the last three-days during the Papal visit, and the lack of courtesy and respect shown by the Prime Minister. He said the Prime Minister continuously declares PNG as a ‘Christian country’ and prides himself on being a religious individual but he was surprised when the Pope was continuously snubbed by the PM over the weekend since the Pope’s arrival on Friday. “The Pope is the head of the Catholic church, the largest Christian church in the world and he is also a head of state. “PNG not only being a Christian country, but a country that prides itself as a ‘friend to all, enemy to none’, the PM should be according the Pope with the highest level of respect,” Tomuriesa said. Wamdi joins Wigmen

Sports

HELA Wigmen have confirmed that centre Valentine Wamdi has signed with them — and not with Waghi Tumbe — for the upcoming Digicel Cup season.
Wigmen chief executive Patrick Wundai told The National yesterday that claims about Wamdi’s Tumbe commitment were misleading.
“Opposed to what Tumbe chairman (Paul Tumun) said in Wednesday’s paper, I would like to confirm that Wamdi has signed with Kroton Hela Wigmen for the 2022 season,” he said.
“He is training with the squad right now.
“Reports of him being home in Jiwaka and with Tumbe are not true.
“He began training after signing his contract on arrival two weeks ago from Kokopo, where he had spent some time with Rabaul Gurias.
“Wamdi has been welcomed with open arms by the club.
“He is an integral part of our upcoming campaign.
“Irrespective of what other clubs or his former employers say, he made a choice to be based out of Port Moresby, particularly with the Wigmen for the duration of his stay in the capital city.”
Wundai said Wamdi was a talented centre and that he would be a great addition to the 2020 premiers.
“We know what Valentine is capable of on the field, especially on the edges,” he said.
“He is a good player, we know how he plays and we are looking forward to his contribution to the team when the season kicks off.
“Wamdi has settled in well with his family and the Wigmen in Port Moresby.”
