Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa said he is disappointed and embarrassed over the way His Holiness Pope Francis was treated by Prime Minister James Marape over the last three-days during the Papal visit, and the lack of courtesy and respect shown by the Prime Minister. He said the Prime Minister continuously declares PNG as a ‘Christian country’ and prides himself on being a religious individual but he was surprised when the Pope was continuously snubbed by the PM over the weekend since the Pope’s arrival on Friday. “The Pope is the head of the Catholic church, the largest Christian church in the world and he is also a head of state. “PNG not only being a Christian country, but a country that prides itself as a ‘friend to all, enemy to none’, the PM should be according the Pope with the highest level of respect,” Tomuriesa said. The Opposition Leader pointed out that on Friday, the Prime Minister did not welcome the Pope at the airport, a tradition he had accorded to many other wo

CENTRAL Queensland Capras’ Papua New Guinean players say they are prepared to face their countrymen, the SP Hunters, at Browne Park in Rockhampton tomorrow (3.50pm kick-off).
Capra McKenzie Yei told The National yesterday that he and fellow Papua New Guineans Nixon Putt, Zev John and Jedidiah Simbiken were aware of the South Pacific Brewery-sponsored visitors’ capabilities.
But the bench forward said they were confident of registering their second win of the Hostplus season following their round-one win over Souths Logan Magpies last weekend.
“Zev, Nixon, Jedidiah and I are looking forward to the challenge,” former Hunter Yei said.
“There will be no pressure as we will take this game as another Hostplus Cup match.
“We know the Hunters’ style of the game, they are always physical, and run and tackle hard.
“But we will be playing our own style and I am confident that it will be an even contest.
“We are taking it one game at a time.
“Our goal this season is to make the finals.
“But we have to get the small things right and it’s no different against the Hunters.”
John, who made his club debut last week after joining the side from Redcliffe Dolphins, warned coach Matthew Church’s Hunters that there would be no love lost.
“Most Hosplus Cup sides don’t have the same aggression as the Hunters,” he said.
“I know they will come out hard, but I am ready to face them.
“I am excited. Like us, the Hunters are representing the country.
“But we’re playing for a different side.
“We are mates off the field, but it will be different on the pitch.”
