A MAN who was enraged because his wife refused to follow him killed her and their unborn child in front of their relatives at home, before escaping.
The incident occurred last Friday at Dodomona, Mougulu station, Nomad local level government in North Fly, Western.
Police commander Chief Insp Silva Sika told The National that the man was arrested on May 8 and kept at a secret location to protect him, before police flew him out.
He said last Friday, the whole community had gone to the local pastor’s residence to clean around the church and the home.
The man kept on telling his wife to follow him but she refused.
Then the house belonging to the man’s father caught fire and was completely destroyed.
“The husband accused the woman of causing the fire,” Chief Insp Sika said.
“However, the people told the man and his family that she had been with them cleaning the pastor’s compound.”
“That evening, while she was preparing food to cook, the husband ran towards her and chopped her foot.
“People heard her crying and ran to assist her stop the bleeding.
“But she died.
“The husband was apprehended on May 8 and kept in a secret location.
“Police flew into the area and brought the man to protect him.”
He is now in police custody
